Fifa World Cup 2022: Switzerland - Cameroon 1-0: Embolo the first player to score against his hometown in the World Cup

With Brel Embolo becoming the first player in the World Cup to score against his home country, Switzerland continued their unbeaten streak in premierships since 1966 and started with the right (1-0) against the inefficient Cameroon of the main Enkulu.

Unscathed in premieres for half a century. Doomed to defeat or seven consecutive finals games. Switzerland and Cameroon had their own goal for their opening game at the World Cup, but in the end experience and the know how prevailed. Unwillingly with their performance, the Shaqiri-Jaka-Zommer team took the game against the wasteful Cameroon effort of Enkulu (key)-Kunde (1-0), with Embolo becoming the first World Cup player to score against the country he was born in. So he took an important step towards qualifying, leaving Rigobert Song's total one game away from the longest streak without a win in the tournament (held by Mexico with nine games from the '50s).

Cameroon's Lions were superior for a half, taking advantage of Switzerland's many defensive gaps in the defensive transition, without being significantly threatened. Instead, they spent several classic chances on their side, with the first being scored in two times in the 10th minute, first with Zommer repelling Empemo's shot and on the rebound Toko Ekambi failing from the penalty spot.

A few minutes later, the dangerous Chupo-Moting pinched the ball superbly with his head and went off on his own in the tet-a-tet, however he spoiled it at the end, with Zommer making a second decisive intervention.

In the face of all this, Switzerland essentially countered only a menacing Akanji header in the delays, thus crediting Onana with Cameroon's first World Cup game with zero finals of the opponent on goal since 2002!

As was the case then, however, so now the Africans have faltered after the respite. Just in the 48th minute, Cameroon-born Embolo, found the net undisturbed in the small area from the centre of Shaqiri, who has been involved in 12 of Switzerland's 24 goals in the last four major tournaments (two Euro, two World Cups)!

From then on, Cameroon gradually "turned off" the engines and it was Switzerland who came close to the goal, with Onana impressively saying the no in the 66th minute and Vargas' contact finish.

Aris' stopper, Enkulu, was also key in the 90th minute, Olympiacos' Kunde was not used.
